This one-of-a-kind lidded box is turned from spalted maple and paired with a contrasting black walnut lid. The maple body displays soft, natural spalting and subtle surface variation, while the darker walnut lid provides visual weight and a quiet counterpoint to the lighter form below.
The lid is delicately engraved, adding a restrained layer of detail that rewards closer viewing without overwhelming the overall form. The proportions are low and balanced, emphasizing the horizontal spread of the box and the natural movement of the maple grain.
Finished with shellac, the surface has a warm, refined sheen that enhances color and figure while preserving the tactile quality of the wood.
