Spalted Maple Hollow Form Vase – Hand-Turned Wood Vessel with Subtle Opening

$125.00

This one-of-a-kind hollow form vase is hand-turned from spalted maple and defined by its low, rounded profile and restrained opening. A small 7/8″ mouth contrasts with the generous volume of the form, drawing attention to the surface rather than the interior and giving the piece a quiet, sculptural presence.

The maple displays natural spalting with fine, dark ink lines and soft tonal shifts that move across the surface. These markings are the result of natural processes within the wood and create a sense of depth and movement without overwhelming the form. The walls are turned to approximately 1/8″ thickness, achieving a balance of lightness and structural integrity.

The surface has been meticulously sanded through 1000 grit and finished with a hand-crafted 1-lb cut shellac made from shellac flakes dissolved in neutral spirits. This finish enhances clarity and depth while maintaining a warm, refined sheen suited to close viewing.

This piece is intended primarily as a decorative or sculptural vessel.

Made individually on the lathe, this piece reflects the same standards as my juried art show work and is a single, finished piece—not part of a production run.

Finish: Shellac (S).
